Advertising: Then and Now

I ran across this great website this weekend called Vintage Ad Browser which shows thousands of advertisements from as far back as the 1700′s!

What struck me most was that while the products and the artistic styles have changed over the years, the actual messages have not.

Why do you think that is? I think because those messages work.

What words do you notice over and over in these ads as you scan the decades? What are your favorite ads? Here’s  one of mine.
